POSITION SUMMARY
Install, maintain, perform preventative maintenance on, and recommend replacement of tools, appliances, and equipment. Participate in the preparation of the annual departmental operating budget and financial plans. Monitor budget and control expenses with a focus on energy management, preventive maintenance, and capital planning.
Lead hotel renovations and other projects, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely completion of projects within budget.
Direct day-to-day engineering requirements, plan and assign work, and establish performance and development goals for team members. Provide mentoring, coaching and regular feedback to help manage conflict and improve team member performance.
Educate and train all team members in compliance with governmental and safety regulations. Ensure staff is properly trained on quality and service standards and has the tools and equipment and is empowered to carry out job duties.
Ensure a safe and secure environment for guests, team members in compliance with regulatory policies and procedures. Maintain relations with outside contacts including guests, regulatory agencies, others as needed.
Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other departments. Communicate with all hotel department heads to stay informed of maintenance needs and ensure timely responses to requests.
Oversee the physical operations of the hotel, including maintenance and repair and order parts and supplies in a timely and efficient manner while minimising waste and maintaining “green” initiatives.
Perform other duties as assigned. May also serve as manager on duty.
What We Need From You
Some college or advanced vocational training plus five years of experience in general building maintenance and/or construction and supervisory experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Specialised expertise in plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry fields an added advantage. Hotel experience preferred. Professional certification and licence if required by law.

7. Guest Experience & Service Excellence

· Ensure engineering works minimise disruption to guests and hotel operations.
8. Documentation & Reporting
· Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, permits, drawings, and statutory documentation.
· Prepare reports on breakdowns, incidents, utilities, project progress, and departmental performance.
· Assist in audits, inspections, and management reviews.
Experience:
· Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical systems, fire protection, and building services.
· Familiarity with BMS, energy management systems, and hotel maintenance practices.

People
Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of engineers and technicians to ensure smooth operations of all hotel systems.
Provide guidance, training, and performance feedback to team members.
Conduct regular briefings, safety talks, and maintenance meetings.

Accountability

Requirements
Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Services Engineering (or related discipline).
Minimum 3–5 years of engineering or maintenance experience in hospitality or commercial buildings.
Good technical knowledge of M&E, HVAC, plumbing, and fire safety systems.
Prior supervisory experience in a facilities or hotel maintenance setting preferred.
Proactive, hands-on, and able to troubleshoot technical issues independently.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Willingness to work on-call, weekends, and public holidays as operationally required.

POSITION SUMMARY
Install, maintain, perform preventative maintenance on, and recommend replacement of tools, appliances, and equipment. Calibrate all controls, gauges, meters, etc. Identify, locate, and operate all shut-off valves. Order, mark, and stock parts and supplies as needed. Maintain inventory and purchase orders log. Inspect tools, equipment, or machines. Enter and locate work-related information using computers. Operate power lift. Complete the life safety checklist, including the fire-pump run test and generator run test. Inspect fire sprinkler valves and alarm systems. Assist in development of disaster response protocols. Respond and attend to guest repair requests.
Assist management in hiring, training, scheduling, evaluating, counseling, disciplining, and motivating and coaching employees. Follow all company and safety and security policies and procedures; report maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries; and complete safety training and certifications. Ensure uniform and personal appearance are clean and professional and maintain confidentiality of proprietary information. Welcome and acknowledge all guests according to company standards, anticipate and address guests’ service needs, and assist individuals with disabilities. Develop and maintain positive working relationships with others, support team to reach common goals, and listen and respond appropriately to the concerns of other employees. Ensure adherence to quality expectations and standards; and identify, recommend, develop, and implement new ways to increase organizational efficiency, productivity, quality, safety, and/or cost-savings. Speak with others using clear and professional language. Visually inspect tools, equipment, or machines. Reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping. Move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects weighing less than or equal to 50 pounds without assistance. Grasp, turn, and manipulate objects of varying size and weight. Stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time. Move up and down stairs and/or service ramps. Perform other reasonable job duties as requested by Supervisors.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Technical, Trade, or Vocational School Degree.
Related Work Experience: At least 2 years of related work experience.
Supervisory Experience: At least 2 years of supervisory experience.

About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team at York Hotel (Private) Limited as an Assistant Chief Engineer. In this full-time position, you will be responsible for supporting the Chief Engineer in the day-to-day management of the hotel's engineering and maintenance operations. Based in the Orchard Central Region, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the hotel's facilities.
What you'll be doing
Assist the Chief Engineer in overseeing the maintenance and repair of all hotel equipment, systems and infrastructure
Coordinate and supervise the work of the engineering team, ensuring all tasks are completed to a high standard
Identify and implement energy-saving initiatives to improve the hotel's environmental sustainability
Respond promptly to any maintenance requests or emergencies, minimising disruption to hotel operations
Liaise with external contractors and suppliers to ensure the timely completion of projects
Monitor and maintain accurate records of all engineering activities and expenditure
Assist with the development and implementation of the hotel's preventative maintenance programme
What we're looking for
Minimum 5 years' experience in a similar engineering role within the hospitality industry
Strong technical knowledge of hotel equipment and building systems, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical and life safety systems
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to work under pressure
Proficient in using computerised maintenance management systems
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with both internal and external stakeholders
Familiarity with relevant health and safety regulations and the ability to ensure compliance
Proactive approach to identifying and implementing process improvements
